Dr. Janet Berry Hess receives a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Dr. Janet Berry Hess, a professor in the Hutchins School of Liberal Studies, has received a grant to serve as Project Director for "Native Knowledge in Film: Contemporary Worlds, Traditional Cultures," funded by the National Endowment for the Arts. This project will (1) fund a speaker series of Native filmmakers/advocates to discuss Native film, in conjunction with film screenings held for students, faculty, and staff at SSU; and (2) fund the creation of a short documentary to document and preserve the TEK (traditional ecological knowledge), artistic practices, and linguistic knowledge of a local Native elder who practices traditional medicine and traditional ecological knowledge (TEK).
