Dr. Kevin A. Nguyen, Assistant Professor of STEM Education in the Hutchins School of Liberal Studies, attended the 2023 American Education Research Association conference in Chicago, IL. He presented a research poster titled, Attending to Time, Equity, and Design in an Informal Science Learning Community. His research poster was in a curated poster session called Critically Examining Space and Time in Learning and Design for More Just and Equitable Futures. The session was led by science education equity expert, Dr. Angela Calabrese Barton.
His research poster quickly highlighted the way outdoor sports and science organizations can be white-centered. Through ethnography, he shows how one particular student organization made changes to be more inclusive in their canoeing citizen science club.
This research poster and related work will be shared again at Sonoma State's Week of Research and Creativity.
