Assistant Professor of English, Theresa Burruel Stone, has published "Socializing college-going Latinx youth to (White) Neutral Rationality: Liberal teaching practices and right-wing racisms" in International Journal of Qualitative Studies in Education. This scholarship draws upon pláticas and interviews from an ethnographic study of a college preparation program for Latinx youth at a public California high school, examining how liberal teaching practices shaped Mexican-origin youths’ responses to right-wing terror. It found that instead of preparing youth to dismantle white supremacy, these practices undermined their readings of their sociopolitical worlds.
